Symposiums archive

Our alumni network has in its way existed long ago before the Malmstens Alumni was officially founded in 2019. The most recent symposium held place in Stockholm in September 2022. Please see more information below. The 2005 and 2007 Vadstena symposiums were not organized by Malmstens Alumni association, but it was in first hand craftsmen and artisans with Malmstens background who pulled the strings and made these hiostoric events a reality. Therefore we would like to share these postprints with all interested.

Woodworking Tools & Techniques — Past, Present & Future
16-19 September 2022, Stockholm, Sweden

Symposium Woodworking Tools & Techniques - Past, Present & Future was organised in collaboration with Skokloster Castle and Malmstens Linköping University. Participants from some 19 countries, with the common denominator wood, included art historians, cabinetmakers, conservators, designers and artisans. Historical, theoretical, technical and design-related aspects were covered. What can we learn from old tools? How do woodworking techniques influence design? What are the tools and techniques of the future?
